Jugiong is on for the weekend of the 23/24th January 2010.
Below is the Supp Regs, entry form and program for the weekends activities, the event is also in the calendar as is the NRMA Motorfest which is on the 26th Jan.

Please come along, help is always appreciated at Jugiong and with no long weekend this year it’s a good opportunity to attend both events.

The event is fast approaching and while there is a page dedicated to the event I thought I would make a post on the event to bring it to everyone’s attention.

The 2009 Australian Motorkhana Championship CIP (Competitor Information Pack) is available to download.

This is the biggest event of the year for the RCCA and is not only in our sporting calendar but also the social one as well.

Renault Australia will be entering a specially prepared Clio for the day and we would love to see all members out there to support the club, so lets make it a sea of diamonds! If you can lend a hand at the event it would be more than appreciated as we are going to need all the hands we can get, but your more than welcome to come out socially and experience the 2009 Australian Motorkhana Championship, remember this only happens in our state once every 4-5 years so it’s not to be missed.

The day dawned with beautiful sunshine but this was quickly replaced by a grey sky with rain threatening.  As we arrived at the Auburn Gardens Park, large puddles were in abundance and the occasional shower gave us good cause to erect the two Renault tents as quickly as possible.

Bob had kindly lent me one of his Renault 5s (as I was still awaiting the seats to be recovered on my 15TS).  These are quite remarkable cars, even for modern day traffic.  They are able to keep up and you have full confidence in the brakes.  They are also very economical and there are 3 for sale at extremely competitive prices (ask Bob).

It wasn’t long before other Renaults arrived and we soon had a very good showing of cars.  There were plenty of Peugeots to look at but the Citroens were a bit thin on the ground this year and their display consisted mostly of DSs with a Diane being the standout.  The Simca display was dominated by the Matra which is a fabulous car with 3 seats in the front.

Fran was very busy doing renewals for membership and selling items that were displayed whilst some members, for whom we are eternally grateful, completed the judging of the cars.  A foreigner known to many in the Club attended – our favourite son Phil Clark (don’t mention the sheep).

Certain cars were then put forward for the CMC Judges from the Judging Pool to evaluate.  My favourites for the day were the R Cups of Dom and Ted.

Meanwhile the weather was improving as we enjoyed lunch and then it was time for the prize giving in the sunshine.
The following are to be commended for their cars, taking out the winning prizes for the RCCA:

• Best French Car on the Day John Brigden – Dauphine Gordini
• Best Old Timer Bill and Robyn Bettts – 1908 Type AX

*Note – This year we had a new class categories. Best French car had to be at least 10 years old.

Modern cars were those 3 to 9 years and Old Timers in a separate grouping as well.

Long overdue I know, but a lot of outstanding items have been fixed and are working as intented

First thing is the calendar has been updated for the next few months. This is the most important aspect of the site as we would like to keep you informed of any events or changes via the web. I’m using Google Maps for easy navigation to an event and hope you find it useful.

The “Featured Content Gallery” is working! This is a great feature allowing easy site navigation to an event detail or a story on a past event. Just click on the article and you will jump straight to it.

The photo gallery is up with photos from events this year! This has allowed the Jugiong and Australia Day stories to have image galleries attached.

Other site updates have occurred. The 2009/2010 membership form is updated, recent issues of ‘The Hub’ added and the ‘About’ section have all been updated.

On the “to do list” is the site logo is being replaced with some nicer looking graphical banners, also comments will be turned on so feel free to create and account and start posting.

A few months ago I put up my hand to be the director for Jugiong 2009 and with the help of Belinda and mentors Bob and Fran the event was a great success.

The original plan was to drive R8G down to the event but after refusing family help to carry the equipment, I wanted to get everything down there myself like they did in the ‘good old days’, I realised that R8G was not going to cope with the extra weight. So I put the car back in the garage and covered it up vowing that I would get R8G to Jugiong one day in the future, but this weekend would not be that day

My kids were excited to be camping for the weekend and my daughter was upset that R8G was not the mode of transport but setbacks aside we left Sydney mid afternoon on Friday for the Australia Day weekend pilgrimage to Jugiong.

The road ahead after Yass was darkened skies and lightening and it was approx 5pm when we turned off the highway and crossed the cattle grid in to Jugiong. We swiftly made our way to the camping area around the showground where Andrew and Belinda we already setup and waiting our company.
It started to sprinkle as we unpacked the car and the wind picked up making the tent setup interesting, sprinkling turned in to heavier rain but the fir pine gave us some shelter and with the help of everyone our tent was up and we were settling in with a beer in no time at all.

Friday night was a BBQ and socialising around the camp site but by 2am the wind and rain had picked up again and blown open the front of our tent. I had left the tent open as Rebekah and Andrew had decided to kick on through the night and I crashed at about 12am, yet the two socialites had not yet come to bed. After fumbling my way around in the dark looking for a tent peg I came across them held up in the common area shelter wet from putting up the side curtain and with a good dent in the Jack D and Bicardi bottles. I left them to it, battened down the hatches and crashed.

The next morning there was a light breeze and some sore heads moving around the camp site, with a lazy morning and a light lunch I met with Bob to setup up the Motorkhana in the flood plain behind the showground.
The weather was on our side as we had heard Sydney was experiencing a scortcher, and my 2.45pm we were setup and ready to head to the hotel’s bar for the ‘First Beer’.
It only took an hour for the beer to be won by Ted and for once it was won drinking a beer! Not a lemonade or a shandy but a beer.
Dinner Saturday night was our at our social evening and beautiful BBQ was prepared by Andrew and Jo with fresh salads and some fantastic desserts. A big thank-you to the both of them for all the work they put in.
Saturday night was not as big as the previous night but back at the camp site some more stories were told, a few more beers were sunk but an earlier night was called so we could all be fresh for Sunday’s main event.

Jugiong 2009 was in full swing by 8am with entries starting to roll in, cars to be scrutineered and the drivers briefing started on time at 10am. I was fairly nervous addressing everyone as it was my first event as Director and added plenty of um’s and ar’s to pad the briefing up. With some comments addressed from the peanut gallery (Bruce…..) the event was a go and cars were lining up at the start garages to tackle the first events.
We got through 5 events before lunch which was put on my the local bush fire brigade. Snags, salad and a cold drink hit the spot and we finished the day with another 2 events albeit a little dusty.
I finished the afternoon with a swim with the kids in Jugiong pool prior to our presentation dinner.

Sunday nights presentation dinner is held upstairs in the hotel restaurant where you can get a chicken schnitzel that would make Gordon Ramsey proud.
We stopped the dinner mid way to make some presentations for the winners of the day, all in all I felt the weekend was a big success. Thanks to all that helped me out, I appreciate it.

Monday morning we had breakfast and packed up and was on the road by 10am, home at 2pm. The run home was a lonely one as I had a tired family on board catching up on some zzzz’s.

Yep the site is finally getting the love it deserves and will have some funky things by Thursday night.

Apologies if you see some weird things over the next two days while I work out some issues I have been having with the site. Rest easy it’s in good hands

It was Renault’s turn to have an early start so we all departed from our respective suburbs to be at the Domain Parking Station by 6.20am where a sausage sanger and nice cuppa awaited us.  After about 45 mins we returned to our cars – well, most of us.  Certain gas baggers were talking to the concrete walls whilst we were escorted up to Macquarie Street but fortunately we were able to save some places for them!

By 10am all the cars, about 1000 of them, were parked in the Macquarie Street vicinity and it wasn’t long before we were invaded by members of the public.  It is such a happy day with much frivolity, silly hats, and even some in fancy dress.  The good weather brought out a mass of colour, girls in skimpy dresses and many men over 60 were still wearing their 50s shorts hoiked right up under their armpits.

So who were we?  Well, I can hardly remember who was there!  Clive in his blue R10, Bruce in his Off Pink R4, Trevor in his Red Dauphine, Mike in his White R10, Ian in his White R10S, Brian in Ian’s Green AH Sprite, Jen in her Blue R750, Roger in his Light Green R750,  his darling daughter scaring us all in his White Floride (where’s reverse?) and me in my Yellow R15TS.  There may have been another one so apologies if I have forgotten someone.  It was a good roll up for a small club.

It was great to be able to walk up and down viewing the magnificent machinery on display.  Cars, buses, trucks, fire engines, stock cars and motorbikes.  There was something for everyone and all were over 30 years old.  Oh, the nostalgia of bygone eras.  My favourites were, Alfa Romeo Montreal, Maserati Khamsin, Lancia Fulvia Rally 1.3S.

And then at about 4pm the rain started.  It was quite light at first but then it got heavier and made for slow going on the exit roads at 5pm when we were allowed to depart from the display areas. I kept thinking of the hours of polishing by owners of their cars only to be rained upon but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of all the participants.

Well it’s finally launched and available to the public, I hope you like the layout and format of the new website

The idea of the new site is to use a blogging style format that keeps you up to date on events and somewhere were members can make comments and suggestions on car club activities.

At the very top of the site we have some navigation to Membership info, ‘The Hub’ magazine, Gallery and About. These links are permanent posts to things like the membership form, past issues of ‘The Hub’ and the photo gallery as well as information about the RCCA. Another new link will appear there as well in the coming week to such things as Motorsport/CAMS info.
In the side bars to the right of the main posts is a Feature Content area which will have links to premier articles. Below that is the Upcoming Events list, Site Search and RSS Subscription link and also RSS feed from the Renault Aussie Frogs forum.

There will be some tweaking of the side bar and the site in general over the next couple of months but the layout of the site will remain as is, unless everyone dislikes the site and I start from scratch

The core of the website is using an application called Wordpress. This application is open source and has many great features that we will be using in the not too distant future. Mass mail-outs, RSS feeds, feature galleries and user subscriptions are a few of the features so keep coming back regularly as the new site will be more dynamic and play a much more important role in 2009 and beyond.
